Away to Visit the Aunt

Other than finishing the edges and foundation of the back of the manor, and a surprise element, the manor is finished. I say that with tongue in cheek, because we know we're never really "finished". My attention now turns to the basement where I'm already thinking of adding a few other rooms. And while the basement construction begins, the Pennethorne's are off to England to visit an old aunt whom Lord Pennethorne is set to inherit. Bon Voyage!

Reginauld and Aoife are discussing the details for readying the Pennethorne's for their extended trip.

Lady Pennethorne is gathering up items from her dressing table to take with her.

Lord Pennethorne is looking over last minute details and ensuring he has the tickets for their boat trip to England.

The family are awaiting their carriage that will take them to the docks.

Rosemary is extremely excited to see her old aunt again, and to play her grand piano forte.

Reginauld and Aoife will be kept busy taking care of the family pets and overseeing the construction of the rooms in the basement.

 Goodbyes are always difficult, but it is only for a few months.

The Pennethorne's are always reluctant to leave the manor as it's such a cozy home, but they know it will be in good order upon their return.

The manor in it's resting place until the basement is finished.

And now a new adventure begins . . . the basement of Pennethorne Manor . . .

The basement from left to right - wine cellar, butler's pantry/servant's dining room,
kitchen, laundry/sewing room.

I'll likely be adding a few more rooms as the servant's will need rooms of their own.  Let the fun begin!

  2. This is truly one of the most beautiful dollhouses I have ever seen. Your attention to detail is phenomenal. I can hardly wait to watch the progression in the basement - - and to find out what the "surprise" will be! - Marilyn D., New Brunswick, Canada

    1. Thank you Marilyn for your kind comments! I see you're a fellow Canadian eh? LOL! We moved to Wisconsin about 20 years ago and just became citizens last year. Canada will always be home though!

  3. This is certainly exciting event for Lord and Lady Pennethorne and their staff as are the below stairs quarters under construction, but I hope that sleeping quarters for their faithful retainers will also under serious consideration.

    1. Yes, Elizabeth, we are adding sleeping quarters (with their own bathrooms!) to what will be the sub-basement. It would have been nice to have them on the upper floors of the manor, and had I known there would be so many occupants I might have added another upper floor! LOL! Oh well, hopefully they'll be comfortable anyway. ;-}
